The Indian Army, alongside the Jammu and Kashmir Police, is training approximately 600 Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in Jammu to bolster local security amidst rising terrorism. This initiative includes intensive instruction on automatic rifles, squad drills, and tactics, replacing outdated .303 rifles with Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs). The training aims to empower civilians to protect their villages, with previous training also conducted in Rajouri, Doda, and Kishtwar.
