Amtrak begins $1.3bn project to replace aging Connecticut River Bridge, set for completion in 2031.

Amtrak has launched a $1.3 billion project to replace the aging Connecticut River Bridge, built in 1907, due to structural issues. Groundbreaking took place in Old Lyme, with construction set to begin this fall and conclude around 2031. The new bridge will enhance train speeds from 45 mph to 70 mph and provide improved clearance for marine traffic. The project, funded partly by a federal grant, aims to create 300 jobs and modernize regional transportation infrastructure.
