He played a key role in the 1989 merger with Warner Communications, forming the largest media corporation at that time. Munro was pivotal in establishing HBO as a major subscription cable channel. Born in 1931 in Syracuse, NY, he began his career at Sports Illustrated and served in the Marines during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and six grandchildren.
