146 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools reach record growth, 56 schools still face low performance.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) reported record student achievement for the 2023-24 school year, with 146 schools meeting or exceeding growth, the highest in district history. Despite these gains, Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill noted that 56 schools still face low performance ratings. Across North Carolina, improvements were seen in test scores and graduation rates, although reading proficiency remains a challenge, particularly among minority students.
