Dutch elm disease detected in Edmonton for the first time, threatening 90,000 elm trees.
Dutch elm disease has been detected in Edmonton for the first time, threatening the city's 90,000 elm trees. As of August 30, four trees tested positive. In response, Edmonton is collaborating with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and others to contain the spread, including culling affected trees and reducing beetle habitats. Residents are advised against bringing firewood from other areas and to report any signs of infestation.
