61-year-old ultra swimmer "The Shark" plans to cross Lake Michigan.
Jim Dreyer, a 61-year-old ultra swimmer known as "The Shark," plans to attempt crossing Lake Michigan from Grand Haven, Michigan, to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This swim, covering at least 80 miles and expected to last over 72 hours, follows a previous attempt that was abandoned due to GPS issues. Dreyer will tow a small inflatable boat with supplies. He successfully crossed the lake in 1998 but has faced challenges in three attempts since 2023.
