David Taylor, 62, is charged with attempting to murder a Greater Manchester Police detective during an interview at HMP Frankland on July 23. He appeared via videolink at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court and did not enter a plea. The case has been referred to Teesside Crown Court for October 1, 2024. The injured detective has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home. Taylor remains in custody.
