₹26,000 crore deal approved for 240 AL-31FP engines to upgrade Indian Air Force's Su-30MKI fleet.

The Indian government has approved a ₹26,000 crore ($3.5 billion) deal for 240 AL-31FP aero-engines for the Su-30MKI fighter jets, sourced from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The engines will contain over 54% indigenous content and be delivered over eight years, starting in one year. This procurement aims to sustain the Indian Air Force's fleet, which currently operates 30 squadrons, below the required 42 to address threats from China and Pakistan.
