Bengali theatre figure Biplab Bandyopadhyay has returned his 'Best Theatre Director' award in protest against the state government's handling of the rape-murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital. He accused officials of obscuring facts. Other artists, including playwright Chandan Sen, have also renounced awards and grants in solidarity with protesting junior doctors and the public's demand for justice. The CBI is investigating the case following a Calcutta High Court order.
