Disabled man assaulted in mobility parking area, attacker faces higher penalties starting Oct 1.

Johnny Kauwhata, a disabled man in New Zealand, was assaulted by an able-bodied driver in a supermarket's mobility parking area after politely asking him to move his vehicle. The attacker punched Kauwhata twice before bystanders intervened. Following this incident, fines for misusing disability parking spaces will increase from $150 to $750 starting October 1. Kauwhata hopes the higher penalties will deter such behavior, and police are investigating the assault.
