Brisbane City Council terminated Beam Mobility's contract due to excessive scooter deployment and unlicensed trips.
Brisbane City Council has terminated its contract with e-scooter company Beam Mobility for allegedly deploying 500 more scooters than allowed. An investigation revealed 222,975 unlicensed trips from July 2023 to July 2024, with Beam exceeding its cap by over 27%. The council has reported the matter to police and the ACCC, claiming Beam owes $330,000 in unpaid fees. Beam plans to contest these allegations through an independent audit.
