Australian federal government reduces offshore wind zone near Bunbury to address local concerns and protect migratory whales.

The Australian federal government has reduced the offshore wind zone near Bunbury, Western Australia, to 4,000 square kilometers to address local concerns and protect migratory whales. Located 30 km from shore, the zone excludes over 60% of requested recreational fishing areas. The project could generate 11.4 gigawatts of electricity, create 7,000 construction jobs, and 3,500 ongoing jobs. While some opposition remains, unions and environmental groups have generally welcomed the changes.
