University of Essex leads study assessing offshore wind turbine impact on UK biodiversity, carbon storage, & seabed as part of net-zero plan.

The University of Essex is leading a study on the environmental impact of offshore wind turbines as the UK plans to construct thousands more to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Collaborating with Orsted, the University of St Andrews, and CEFAS, researchers will analyze seabed samples from 50 meters to one mile from the turbines. The project aims to assess effects on biodiversity, carbon storage, and seabed composition, while comparing impacts with decommissioned oil platforms.
