Stanford researchers create nontoxic, foamy wildfire-barrier hydrogel for home protection.

Stanford University researchers have developed a hydrogel designed to protect structures from wildfires by creating a foamy barrier as its water evaporates. Made of water, silica particles, and polymer, this nontoxic barrier can be applied to homes before wildfires strike. Currently in the research phase, the team aims to commercialize the gel, which has received approval for its components from the U.S. Forest Service.
