Newcastle Art Gallery acquires Indigenous artwork "Kinyingarra Guwinyanba" addressing colonial impact on Aboriginal middens and oyster reefs.

The Newcastle Art Gallery in Australia has acquired Megan Cope's artwork, "Kinyingarra Guwinyanba (Off Country)," featuring 44 poles with rock oyster shells. The installation will be featured in the gallery's central atrium and explores the colonial lime-burning industry's effects on Aboriginal middens and oyster reefs in Quandamooka Sea Country. Donated by the Newcastle Art Gallery Foundation, the piece underscores the gallery's commitment to First Nations artists and is expected to draw international interest.
