New Zealand launches Tyrewise, a national tyre recycling initiative to combat waste and illegal dumping.

New Zealand has launched its first national tyre recycling initiative, Tyrewise, to combat tyre waste and illegal dumping. The program allows tyre shops and the public to dispose of end-of-life tyres for free at designated sites. Funded by a tyre stewardship fee included in the cost of imported tyres starting March 2024, Tyrewise aims to improve recycling rates and invest in sustainable uses for tyres, addressing the annual import of 6.5 million tyres, of which only 40% are recycled.
