The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), representing major telecom firms, has called on the government to impose traceability and privacy regulations on OTT services like WhatsApp and Google Meet. COAI argues these platforms, which operate similarly to traditional telecom services, should adhere to the same rules to address security concerns and curb illegal activities. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India plans to enforce traceability rules by November 2024.
