4th inmate death at Al Cannon Detention Center; SLED investigating, federal civil rights probe ongoing.

SLED is investigating the death of an unresponsive inmate found at Charleston County's Al Cannon Detention Center infirmary. The inmate was pronounced dead at Roper St. Francis Hospital after attempts at life-saving measures. This marks the fourth inmate death this year, and an internal investigation by the Office of Professional Standards is also underway. The jail is currently under federal civil rights investigation for medical, mental health care, and force-related issues.
