Russian journalist Sergei Mikhailov, who ran an online opposition social media channel in Siberia's Altai republic, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for publishing critical content about Moscow's military campaign in Ukraine. Mikhailov, who was arrested in 2022, faced charges for "knowingly spreading false information" about the Russian army. Since the start of the conflict in February 2022, over 1,000 people have been prosecuted in Russia for criticizing the Russian offensive against Ukraine.
