In 2023, eastern India's Odisha state recorded a 12% increase in cognizable crimes with 1,99,954 cases, as per a Home Department white paper. Murder cases slightly decreased, while cybercrimes rose by 23% (2,348 cases). The state also experienced dacoity (370 cases), robbery (2,961 cases), burglary (6,071 cases), theft (16,851 cases), cheating (6,196 cases), and riots (1,655 cases). Maoist activities were under control, with three cadres killed and 13 arrested.
