Los Angeles has agreed to a $9.5M settlement with the family of Melyda Corado, a Trader Joe's manager fatally shot by police during a 2018 stand-off with a gunman. The largest pre-trial LAPD shooting settlement by the city, it marks Corado's family's allegation that she was hit by a bullet from Officer Sinlen Tse's gun. The suspect, Gene Evin Atkins, is awaiting trial for Corado's murder. The city also approved $17.7M and $11.8M settlements for other LAPD abuse cases.
