ORNL introduces VENUS, AI-enhanced neutron scattering instrument at Spallation Neutron Source facility, accelerating 3D modeling and research in energy, materials, and plant physiology.

ORNL's Oak Ridge National Laboratory has introduced VENUS, a new neutron scattering instrument, to its Spallation Neutron Source facility. VENUS uses AI to provide high-resolution 3D imaging with enhanced contrast sensitive to atomic-scale structural details. The instrument can significantly speed up 3D modeling of samples, aiding research in fields such as energy storage, materials science, and plant physiology. The non-destructive platform, conceived in 2006, offers unique contrasts and sets the stage for the US to lead in neutron imaging.
