Oregon's TriMet increases security patrols following drug possession recriminalization.

TriMet, Oregon's public transit agency, will increase security patrols from Sept 1 in response to recriminalized small drug amounts under House Bill 4002. Starting from Sept 1, drug possession will be considered a crime, with violators facing up to 180 days in jail or access to addiction services. TriMet aims to address the rise in drug incidents since the pandemic with this move, as the safety and security budget has risen to $86.4m in the 2025 fiscal year.
