Researchers sequenced the metagenomes of these food samples, identifying 10,899 food-associated microbes. Food-associated microbes account for around 3% of adult gut microbes, 8% of children's, and over 50% of newborns'. The database is open-access, offering insights into the microbes' link with food quality, conservation, and safety.
