1987-batch IAS officer TV Somanathan, a Tamil Nadu cadre veteran with qualifications as a chartered accountant, cost accountant, and company secretary, has taken over as India's Cabinet Secretary, succeeding Rajiv Gauba. With a two-year tenure, Somanathan has held several crucial roles, including joint secretary and additional secretary in the Prime Minister's Office, joint secretary in the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and director for corporate affairs at the World Bank. In his home state, he has served as managing director of the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation and secretary to the chief minister.
