Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, is developing a new mixed reality device, "Puffin", with a smaller form factor and no handheld controllers; expected release in 2027.
Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, is reportedly developing a new mixed reality device, codenamed "Puffin." This device aims to offer an alternative to the heavy headsets currently available, with plans for a smaller form factor. Puffin is in the early stages of development and is expected to be released in 2027. Notably, it will not include handheld controllers and will instead rely on hand gestures and eye movements for operation. Meta's Reality Labs division, responsible for the development and marketing of their Quest line of VR headsets, has experienced significant financial losses. Despite this, CEO Mark Zuckerberg remains optimistic about the future prospects of AR/VR technologies.
