Karnataka CM urges 16th Finance Commission for a balanced tax share and inclusion of all non-tax revenues.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has urged the 16th Finance Commission to advocate for a balanced and fair approach to sharing resources. He has called for an increase in the state's tax share and the inclusion of all non-tax revenues of the Centre in the divisible pool of taxes. Siddaramaiah believes that Karnataka, which contributes around 8.4% to the national GDP and has only 5% of the population, deserves greater share in the divisible pool due to its substantial contribution to the Union's Gross Tax Revenue. The Chief Minister has also expressed concerns about the increase in reliance on cesses and surcharges by the Union Government and the reduction in central financial transfers affecting the state's ability to invest in infrastructure.
