General Motors and Samsung SDI delay 2026 battery cell plant production in Indiana to 2027 due to US electric vehicle sales slowdown.

General Motors and Samsung SDI have delayed the production start at their electric vehicle battery cell plant in New Carlisle, Indiana, from 2026 to 2027 due to slowing US electric vehicle sales and ongoing market conditions. The $3.5 billion plant, set to employ 1,600 workers, will produce nickel-rich prismatic batteries for improved driving range and lower costs. This is GM's fourth joint venture battery cell factory, with the other three being co-produced with South Korea's LG Energy Solution.
