Florida detects Oropouche virus, sharing similar symptoms to Zika and Dengue, with potential risks for pregnant women.

Florida has detected the Oropouche virus, sharing similar symptoms to Zika and Dengue, leading to concerns for pregnant women who may risk miscarriage, stillbirth, or microcephaly. Florida International University epidemiologist Dr. Mary Jo Trepka advises pregnant women to avoid non-essential travel to Cuba and encourages everyone to use mosquito repellents, wear long sleeves and pants, and check screens to prevent mosquito bites. Broward Mosquito Control Director Anh Ton and the Florida Health Department are working closely to monitor and control potential local transmissions of the virus.
