Auckland Council has unanimously approved its local alcohol policy, aiming to give neighborhoods more control over alcohol availability and reduce harm. The policy will implement stricter rules for new off-licenses in central city and 23 suburbs starting 16 September 2024, with changes to maximum trading hours coming 9 December 2024. The policy is expected to decrease alcohol-related injuries, violence, and car crashes, improving overall health, safety, and wellbeing in the region.
