AeroVironment secures a $990m contract to supply Switchblade loitering munitions to the US Army. The systems, used for destroying tanks and armored vehicles, are designed for precision flight control and can engage stationary and moving targets in hostile environments, minimising collateral damage. The contract, expected to be completed within five years, also equips infantry battalions with the ability to destroy other hardened targets. The US government previously provided Switchblade munitions to Ukraine as part of a security assistance package during Russia's invasion in February 2022.
