18-year-old Jesse Walters, who was 17 at the time, received a 15-year prison sentence for aggravated assault and attempted carjacking in Rapid City in December 2023. Walters, along with another juvenile, attacked a local couple while they were picking up take-out food. Despite being charged as an adult due to his criminal history and intoxication, the second juvenile involved is being processed through the juvenile justice system.
