West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced plans to introduce a bill in the state assembly within ten days that would enforce capital punishment for rapists. Blaming PM Narendra Modi for instigating unrest, Banerjee promised to send the bill to the governor if it's not passed in the assembly and urged striking junior doctors to return to work. She also revealed that an amendment to state laws would be passed to enforce hanging until death for those convicted of heinous crimes like rape and murder.
