Serbia's severe drought has forced farmers to harvest crops earlier, with sugar beet harvest starting in mid-August, corn and sunflower harvests a month and a half ahead of schedule. The drought is predicted to decrease corn yield by 16-20% and cause $550 million in financial losses for fruit and vegetable crops. In response, the government is investing $6.15 million in irrigation systems to support agriculture.
