Los Angeles City Councilman Tim McOsker has called for urgent action to address high lead contamination in Watts' drinking water, introducing a motion to direct the Department of Water and Power and city Housing Authority to investigate and address the issue. A study by the Better Watts Initiative revealed some water samples had lead concentrations exceeding the U.S. EPA's normal limit, prompting mandatory infrastructure repairs and public notifications. Mayor Karen Bass has also called for more tap water testing in the area.
