2007 Lake Huron plane crash wreckage found, remains of missing passenger identified.
17 years after a small plane crashed into Lake Huron, searchers have discovered the wreckage and remains of passenger H. Brooke Stauffer Jr., who was missing since the 2007 accident. The Socata TB-20 Trinidad plane, carrying pilot Karen Dodds and two passengers, disappeared while departing from Mackinac Island. The pilot's remains were found two months after the crash, but there was no trace of Stauffer or the plane at the time. In October 2023, private company Great Lakes Search & Recovery resumed the search at the request of family members. In August 2024, the search team discovered plane wreckage near Bois Blanc Island, and state police divers found skeletal remains. The Center for Forensic Anthropology at Northern Michigan University confirmed Stauffer's identity using dental records.
