Conservationists and hunters in Taiwan collaborate to distribute safer traps to protect endangered Formosan black bears.
Conservationists and hunters in Taiwan collaborate to protect the endangered Formosan black bear, with only a few hundred believed to remain in the wild. Traditional hunting traps have led to bears suffering severe injuries, including amputations. To address this issue, Taiwan's Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency distributes new, safer traps to hunters and farmers, reducing wildlife injuries and deaths. The initiative aims to preserve the Formosan black bear population and symbol of Taiwanese identity.
