California Senate approves bill requiring explicit consent for AI usage of actors' likeness.

California Senate has approved a bill, AB 2642, backed by performers' union SAG-AFTRA, requiring explicit consent from actors for the use of AI technology to create digital replicas. If signed into law, the bill will establish necessary guardrails around licensing to protect performers' voice and likeness rights in the age of digital replication. The bill will return to the Assembly for concurrence before heading to Governor Newsom's desk.
