New Zealand develops a strategic approach for AI use, focusing on five domains and international rules.

New Zealand is developing a strategic approach for AI use, aiming to boost public and economic confidence in AI. The Minister proposes five domains for AI policy: drawing upon existing regulatory frameworks (like privacy, consumer protection, and human rights), voluntary guidance, industry codes, technical standards, and audit requirements. The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has been instructed to produce risk management-based guidance for firms and an AI Roadmap to support AI in the private sector. The focus is on international rules and norms such as the OECD AI Principles and the G7 AI international guiding principles.
