HRW urges Bangladesh's interim government to address human rights abuses, proposing an independent mechanism for investigating and pursuing accountability.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has urged Bangladesh's interim government to address human rights abuses, proposing an independent mechanism for investigating and pursuing accountability for recent grave abuses in the country. HRW recommends establishing an independent domestic inquiry into enforced disappearances, torture, and extrajudicial killings under UN support and oversight, and implementing measures to bring civilian oversight over security forces and reform institutions in line with international human rights standards. HRW also suggests the UN Human Rights Council to ensure ongoing monitoring of Bangladesh's human rights situation and establish regular reporting back to the council.
