3,500 former and current Next employees win landmark equal pay claim against the company.
Over 3,500 former and current employees of UK retailer Next have won a landmark equal pay claim against the company following a six-year legal battle. The Employment Tribunal found that Next failed to demonstrate that paying predominantly female sales consultants less than its warehouse workers was not sex discrimination. The tribunal stated that the pay variance was not because of direct discrimination but was instead driven by efforts to "reduce cost and enhance profit". Next, in response, has announced its intention to challenge the decision.
