Ethiopia's govt has imported 50mln liters of oil, 200k quintals of sugar to combat soaring prices of essential commodities ahead of the Ethiopian New Year. The cooking oil and sugar, procured by the government, aim to improve the cost of living and stabilize market prices. The imports follow macroeconomic reforms that have increased consumer prices, particularly in Addis Abeba. Authorities have taken action against price-gouging and hoarding businesses.
