53.13 crore Jan Dhan accounts opened in 10 years under PMJDY with Rs 2.3 lakh crore deposits.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that over 53.13 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened in the last 10 years, with deposits worth Rs 2.3 lakh crore. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), launched in 2014, aims to provide access to financial services such as banking, credit, insurance, and pension to all Indian households. The scheme has played a significant role in reaching the unbanked and underbanked sections of the Indian population, contributing to the overall financial health of the country. The deposit balance reflects the trust placed in the banking system by the account holders and the average balance per account has increased from Rs 1,065 in March 2015 to Rs 4,352 in the present day. The Finance Minister's statement underscores the government's commitment to the financial inclusion agenda and its efforts to ensure equitable access to financial services for all Indians. The PMJDY has been a crucial catalyst in this regard, fostering an inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
