Alberta Energy Regulator proceeds with coal exploration hearings in Rocky Mountains despite court ruling questioning validity. The hearings will take place in December and January for three applications from Northback Holdings to explore coal on the Grassy Mountain site. Alberta's top court granted leave for a ranching community, the Municipal District of Ranchland, to appeal the validity of the applications, arguing that the regulator should not have accepted them. If successful, the appeal could negate the entire hearing process.
