62-year-old Terry McKirchy sentenced to 3 years in prison, 10 years probation for 1984 manslaughter of Benjamin Dowling, who had shaken baby syndrome.
62-year-old former babysitter, Terry McKirchy, has been sentenced to three years in prison and 10 years probation after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of Benjamin Dowling, who she severely injured as a baby in her care in 1984. Dowling, who had suffered from shaken baby syndrome, spent his entire life severely disabled before passing away at the age of 35 in 2019. McKirchy initially pleaded no contest to attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery on a child in 1985, receiving a 60-day jail sentence and three years of probation. She was charged with first-degree murder in 2021, but her plea deal resulted in a reduced charge of manslaughter.
