Tasmanian Deputy Premier and Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson resigns over Spirit of Tasmania ferry delays.

Tasmania's minority Liberal government faces further challenges as Deputy Premier and Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson resigns over delays in the Spirit of Tasmania ferry project. Delays in the delivery of new ferries, initially expected to begin operations in late 2024, have led to concerns over their full operational capacity. The larger vessels will not be able to operate at full capacity until an upgraded wharf is completed in late 2025. Senator Jacqui Lambie has criticized Ferguson for not holding the infrastructure minister accountable for the delays and has called for his resignation as treasurer.
