Current President Surangel Whipps Jr. now supports shrinking the sanctuary from 80 to 50% of Palau's ocean to allow for sustainable and locally-run fishing, while environmental protection experts believe it is possible to balance conservation efforts with generating revenue and job opportunities through a domestic fishing industry.
