Former Malaysian PM Muhyiddin Yassin faces sedition charges for comments on royalty and PM appointment.
Former Malaysian PM Muhyiddin Yassin will be charged with sedition on Tuesday over comments made during the Nenggiri by-election, questioning the previous king's decision to appoint Anwar Ibrahim instead of him as PM. The Sedition Act charges stem from his comments on race, religion, and royalty. If convicted, he could face a maximum fine of $1,140, up to three years' jail, or both. If convicted, Yassin would become the country's first former leader charged under the colonial-era law.
