66-year-old composer Errollyn Wallen, a Belize-born pianist and singer-songwriter, has been appointed as Master of the King'ss Music by King Charles III. Wallen is the first woman of color to hold the title, created in the reign of King Charles I. Known for her work at the 2012 Paralympic Games and commissions for Queen Elizabeth II's Golden and Diamond Jubilees, Wallen succeeds Dame Judith Weir, the first woman to hold the role. There are no set duties for the Master of the King's Music role, though composing pieces for special royal occasions is often expected.
