24-year-old Brandon Payne was sentenced to 3 years, 4 months in prison for causing serious injury by dangerous driving while drunk. On June 9, 2021, Payne crashed his Volvo into a family in Brierley Hill, seriously injuring the husband and wife, while their child was unharmed. The wife later gave birth to a premature baby with a permanent brain injury. Payne admitted guilt and was also disqualified from driving for 4 years, 8 months. West Midlands Police reinforced the importance of traffic law obedience through their Vision Zero initiative to eradicate road deaths and severe injuries.
